For Rani, Christmas was never special. Home was not a happy place. Her father’s alcohol addiction made her angry and it hardened her heart. For Rani, Christmas never used to be special. In fact, like most days of the year, it was a time she dreaded. Growing up in south east India, her family home was not a happy place because her father’s addiction to alcohol. She would watch the way her father acted and began emulating his angry, hardened behaviour.

Then one December, Rani’s life began to change. She was invited to a Viva Christmas Party at her local church where she ate a meal, played games, made friends and heard about the first Christmas. Then, one December, Rani’s life began to change. She was invited to a Viva Christmas Party at her local church where she ate a meal, played games, made friends and heard about the first Christmas.

He overcame his addiction and family life is now good. Rani started to attend church and became more gentle and loving – and so did her father. He overcame his addiction and family life is now good. As a result, she started attending church and gradually became more gentle, loving and caring. Her father saw Rani’s change, made efforts to be more patient and kind, and eventually overcame his addiction. The whole family has been attending church regularly and are living happily together.   Christmas is now a time of celebration for Rani and her family. Christmas is now a time of celebration for Rani’s family.

A Viva Christmas Party gives a child joy for a day and support for years to come. 7 out of 10 of these children are not currently being helped by one of our partner networks. Each year, about 7,500 new children are introduced to programmes which can give them practical help and support. A Viva Christmas Party is a simple but effective way to give a child a joyful experience not just for a day, but to provide them and their families support for years to come.   Seven in ten children who come to a party are previously unknown to one of our partner networks. So, come January each year, that is about 7,500 new children we can introduce to programmes which will then provide them with ongoing love and support.

Stories, games and puppet shows carry positive messages to empower children. The party showcases the network and influences parents, caregivers, teachers and local policymakers. Stories, games and puppet shows carry underlying messages about rights, life skills and personal protection, boosting a child’s confidence and empowering them make a difference.   The public arena of a Viva Christmas Party raises the awareness of important issues, showcases the work and influences parents, caregivers, teachers and local policymakers.

It costs around £5 for a child to attend a Party. That’s just the price of a couple of coffees! This Christmas can you help us transform the lives of more children both now and into the future? It costs around £5 for a child to attend a Party. That’s just the price of a couple of coffees!
