Reading Workshop Hello Everyone, Thank you for attending this reading workshop. The purpose of the workshop is for you and your child to understand how the Aimsweb diagnostic assessment scores are determined and how these scores are used in our classroom.

Reading Workshop Aimsweb Testing Each year the students are given diagnostic assessments to determine the words they read in 1-minute and their understanding of words accuracy in sentences. Your students know these test as Aimsweb and it is given three times a year (beginning of school, winter and spring).

The MAZE measures comprehension. Reading Workshop The Curriculum Based Measure (CBM) determines how many words a person can read in 1-minute (wpm). Your child is given 3 stories to read aloud to the teacher. Each story is timed for 1-minute. If an error is made the teacher notes the error. The words per minute is determine by number of correct words read in 1-minute The MAZE measures comprehension. Your child is given a story to read silently. 3 minutes are given. Your child circles one of the words in parenthesis that helps makes the sentence appropriate based in the content of the sentence or story.

Reading Workshop The CBM and MAZE then gives us the following: Level of Skill (Average, Above Average, Well Above Average, Below Average and Well Below Average Instructional Recommendation (Continue Current Program, Immediate Problem Solving, Consider Need for Individualized Program
