3. Minutes from previous meeting ACTION ITEMS: Map existing personal contacts between ACCESS-Ericsson Send invitation to Internal Seminar Series to Ericsson researchers

4. Evaluation of Thematic Projects 2007-2009 [EA] ACCESS 2007-2009 Internal projects: Traffic Control (Academic Coordinator Ulf Jönsson) Wireless Sensing and Actuation (Academic Coordinator: Karl H. Johansson) Active Estimation (Academic Coordinator: Håkan Hjalmarsson) Radio Resource Management (Academic Coordinator: Mats Bengtsson) MOBBESKAJP (Academic Coordinator: Viktoria Fodor) MONITOR (Academic Coordinator: Mads Dam) Were asked to submit self-evaluation essays listing deliverables (joint publications from at least two research groups) and to answer three review questions: Which was the single most important contribution from the project? Which is the single most exciting idea the group would like to pursue together in the future? Which is the single most important thing learned from the project that ACCESS should not try to pursue in the future?

Projects scorecard Project # Deliver. = joint papers # Deliver. / # Promised # Other papers Traffic Control 1 0.25 5 MONITOR 0.83 8 Radio Res Mngmt 0.2 >1 Wireless Sensing 6 2.0 7 Active Estimation 3 0.33 30 MOBBESK. 2 0.67 13

Executive Committee Feedback ACCESS Executive Committee met on Oct 5 and reviewed the internal projects, with a focus on what has been good/bad about them, and how we should use “projects” in the future to improve ACCESS…. .....clearly, starting new quality collaborations is hard. Most of the projects missed their promised Deliverables. But promoting such collaboration is one main point of ACCESS. We should therefore not give up the requirement that projects promise joint publications from different labs as Deliverables... .....but the number of Deliverables can be scaled back. In the new round it will be # (founding faculty in a project) + 1 (about half of the 2007-2009 projects). .....stating the single most important result of a project is hard. No project answered that question (MONITOR gave 3 results, the other projects none). .....stating the single most important idea that came out of a project is easier. Most projects presented clearly formulated ideas, which indeed also read exciting, both on substance, and in the tone in which they are presented. Executive Committee recommends full funding of all six thematic projects

5. Launch of Seed Projects 2010-2011 [KHJ] Networked Services Distributed Cameras: Project Leader Flierl, 2 Founding Faculty + 3 Other ACCESS Faculty In Network Optimization: Fischione, 5 FF + 3 F Secure Networked Estimation and Control: Dan + Sandberg, 3 FF Communications Infrastructure Cooperative Communication in Multihop Wireless Networks: Fodor + Thobaben, 3 FF Interference Management for Future Wireless Networks: Xiao + Jalden, 5 FF Distributed Management Stochastic Modeling of Networked Systems: Dan + Krishnamurthy, 1 FF Signals and Systems Impairments in Radio Frequency Transceivers and Pilot Design for correlated MIMO channels: Zetterberg, 4 FF Robust Spectral Estimation: Enqvist, 3 FF

5. Launch of Seed Projects 2010-2011 Executive Committee recommends that these eight seed projects are launched Annual budget 200 KSEK per project directed to the project leader(s) Remark In addition, there will be Collaborative Projects, which are other projects within ACCESS that are not supported as Seed Projects and can be led by any ACCESS Faculty ACCESS Faculty needs to participate in one or more Seed Projects or Collaborative Projects

Agenda Approval of today’s agenda Member to check the minutes Minutes from previous meeting Evaluation of Thematic Projects 2007-2009 [EA] Launch of Seed Projects 2010-2011 [KHJ] Information Status report of Ericsson-ACCESS collaborations [KHJ] Presentation of VINNOVA pilot project [GK,MA] Presentation of ACCESS-TKK collaboration [EA] VR grants awarded to ACCESS researchers [KHJ] New ACCESS Faculty members [KHJ] New Executive Committee members [KHJ] AOB Next meetings

6 b) VINNOVA pilot project [GK,MA] The pilot project consists of three tasks: Hiring of key person to run the activities Distribution of the high level visions that motivates the ACCESS research Demonstrator to enhance communication with society Funding: 670 KSEK

ACCESS Communication plan Aims at making ACCESS research activities more visible to sponsors and the public. Developed by the ACCESS Faculty together with consultants from Nordisk Kommunkation during Spring 2009
