Conservation of Total Mechanical Energy: Example: Alex is sitting in an elevator car. The combined mass of the elevator and Alex is 1000kg. While moving downwards at 10m/s the cable snaps. The car falls 400m onto a huge spring with a spring constant of 1000N/m. Assuming the car actually gets stopped by the spring what was the total compression of the spring when the car reaches zero?

Conservation of Energy: Ek1 + Ep1 + Ee1 = Ek2 + Ep2 + Ee2

To read this weekend: Chapter #7 Section 7.3 P. 310 – 317

Energy Skate Park (Phet) Directions: Check out these online labs. Change the different variables and situation to see how the results change. There is not formal “To Pass In” piece to this; however these are good demonstrations to help develop the pictures of motion. http://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulation/energy-skate-park http://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulation/mass-spring-lab http://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulation/gravity-force-lab http://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulation/pendulum-lab

To do: 1) Physics of Toys 2) Science Fair 3) Final Project: Rube Goldberg 4) Chapter #6 review 5) Chapter #7.1 and 7.2 questions
