Wenjie Zhang1*, Liang Li1*, Dunqiu Wang1*, Xuehong Zhang1* As shown in the Fig. 1.1, partial nitrification was realized by using HAC above 1500mg/L. High nitrogen loading rate about 15 kg/m3/d could be maintained. This is the highest value up to date. Although it was reported that FA above 10mg/L would inhibit the activity of AOB, it showed no effect in this study. For Anammox denitrification (as shown in Fig. 1.1), on day 48, nitrogen loading rate reached 4.8 kg/m3/d. Effluent nitrite was near to zero. The reactor was operated for one month in order to test the long running stabilization. Anammox granules cultivated here expressed red color and good settling velocity (Fig. 1.2). Only synthetic wastewater was tested here. It is suggested that real wastewater could be carried out soon. Also comparing to physical-chemical method, the economic benefit is the crucial factor for application. Now the former is still the popular way. The Feasibility of Treating High Concentration Ammonia Containing Wastewater Using Anammox Process/Full-Scale Anammox Plant Running in Guangxi Province, China (only in oral, call 18777399595) Wenjie Zhang1*, Liang Li1*, Dunqiu Wang1*, Xuehong Zhang1* * The Guangxi Key Laboratory of Environmental Engineering, Protection and Assessment, College of Environmental Science and Engineering, Guilin University of Technology, 12, Jiangan Road, Guilin, 541004, P.R. China (E-mail: 2010053@glut.edu.cn) Presenter Photograph Introduction High ammonia concentration (HAC) above 1000mg/L was rarely reported. There are 2 key steps for successful process operation: nitrification and subsequent anammox denitrification. Due to the inhibition by free ammonia (FA) or free nitrite ammonia (FNA) treating HAC, partial nitrification was not easy to be established. Also high nitrite concentration (HNC) from nitrification unit was deemed as the big problem for anammox stabilization. HNC above 200mg/L was harmful for anammox bacteria. In this paper, HAC up to 1500mg/L was tested by using anammox process. Partial nitrification and anammox denitrification were carried out in separate units. Effect factors including pH, DO, FA, FNA, and HNC were investigated. Bacterial composition was analysed by PCR and DNA databases. Also one full-scale running Anammox plant in Gurangxi Province was introduced in brief. Figure 2: Partial Nitrification running in 1200 m3/d full scale Anammox plant Figure 1: Inner bioparticles based Anammox granules Results & Discussion Figure 4: The settling velocity of granules Figure 3: Time courses of influent and effluent nitrogen concentrations, removal efficiency of nitrogen compounds during anammox process As shown in the Fig. 3, partial nitrification was realized by using HAC above 1500mg/L. High nitrogen loading rate about 15 kg/m3/d could be maintained. This is the highest value up to date. Although it was reported that FA above 10mg/L would inhibit the activity of AOB, it showed no effect in this study. For Anammox denitrification (as shown in Fig. 3), on day 48, nitrogen loading rate reached 4.8 kg/m3/d. Effluent nitrite was near to zero. The reactor was operated for one month in order to test the long running stabilization. Anammox granules cultivated here expressed red color and good settling velocity (Fig. 4). Figure 5: Bacteria diversity in Anammox reactor In this study, only synthetic wastewater was tested here. At this moment, the real wastewater treatment is being carried out in our lab. All going well, we will apply this technology to one factory. Beyond that, we have another full-scale running plant treating low-concentration ammonia wastewater. If you want to learn more, plz contact us by phone 0086-18777399595 or by email above. Conclusions HNC above 1500mg/L could be degraded well by using anammox process with high nitrogen loading rate. This process may be the optional way for treating this kind of wastewater.
