The Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO) Is a non-governmental international organization with UNESCO associate status, established in 1967. We currently bring together 611 research centers and graduate schools in the field of the social sciences and humanities in 47 countries of the 5 continents.

CLACSO’s Objective CLACSO is research network that has been pioneer in the development of programmes and actions that seek to provide synergy between social research and public policies, to respond to some of the main demands and challenges that Latin American societies have. General strategy for aligning research funding to inform policy: Build bridges and promote discussion and exchange between social researchers, policy related public policies and social organizations. Communicate knowledge produced by Latin American and Caribbean social scientists in public policy and social organizations environments, seeking to contribute to processes for consolidation of democracy, human rights, sustainable development and a culture of peace.

Main activities Support cooperation in social research. Strengthen institutional capacities in the academic, political and associative fields. Advocating open access and the democratization of knowledge Collection and dissemination of academic knowledge in all the fields of social sciences and humanities. Encouraging political incidence and active intervention in public debates on the main challenges that face contemporary societies in reducing inequalities. Fostering sustainable economic, social and environmental development policies.

Central guidelines for action Promoting social justice and the affirmation of the rights of citizens. Reducing violence and the promotion of public security policies that foster and guarantee human rights. Advocating for sustainable development policies on a global scale attending social impacts of environmental change. Encouraging interdisciplinary approaches to face major social, political, environmental, cultural, economic and educational problems of our contemporary societies.
