32. ROMANCE “Romance is a story that centers around a love relationship”

Romantic stories are important because they depend on deep feelings and sentimentality to move readers.

Romances often have dangerous settings that separate lovers. Casablanca is a 1942 love story set in Northern Africa. It reunites lovers during war time that are fated to never be together.

Romances bridge the impossible and often use famous locations. Sleepless in Seattle is a 1996 romance about lovers who plan to meet atop the Empire State Building on New Year’s Eve.

Romances often use real historic events as conflict. Titanic is 1996 movie about the doomed luxury ship that crashed in the North Atlantic on her maiden voyage after hitting an iceberg.

Romances can also be about strong friendships Romance stories do not have to be between man and woman. Often the strong bonds of loyalty and love between friends can create a romantic spirit. The Three Musketeers is a good example.

Would you rather read a romance or live it? What do you think is the most important thing for a romance to start and why? BRAINSTORM
