Profiling Cellular Data Coverage Dhruv Bansal Mentor: Mohammad Hosseini Why Collect Cellular Data Coverage? Continuous cellular communications between hospitals and ambulances are a key heath care need and provide numerous advantages over traditional radio/microwave equipment. My work with my mentor has been focused on collecting information about the cellular coverage to help ambulances in an emergency situation select the best route for continuous reliable cellular network. Data Collection Background The main route that will be used goes from Carle’s Hospital in Urbana to the Regional Health Center in Hoopeston The data is collected by an Android application where the phone’s GPS signal is used to determine the location If there is no data coverage, the phone will get no signal The application stores all the data in a file explorer on the phone Example of Collected Data Conclusion The pattern that emerged from analyzing the data suggested that data coverage goes down as you go from a highly populated city to a more rural city There were variations between different providers Verizon had relatively good coverage between the two cities Progress and Gain Learned new algorithms and became proficient in Android Development Tested app and collected data for different providers Collected data for Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile Analyzed data collected from the application Future Work Collect data from other major routes and cities Combine all the data and put it together in a research paper Experiment the clinical impact on an ambulance.
