What Are Matter’s Characteristics?

These four points will help you remember the characteristics of matter: Matter has mass. Mass is a measure of how much matter an object contains. Mass can be measured using a balance. The standard unit of mass is the kilogram (kg).

These four points will help you remember the characteristics of matter: Matter takes up space. A balloon expands as it is filled with air. Air is matter. It has mass. It takes up space.

These four points will help you remember the characteristics of matter: Matter has properties. Different types of matter have different properties. Diamonds are hard and shiny. Cotton is soft and fluffy. Glass is hard and can break.

These four points will help you remember the characteristics of matter: Matter can exist as a solid, a liquid, or a gas. Some types of matter, such as water, can exist in all 3 states. Ice Water Water vapor (steam)
