What do you recall about Density?

Mass is the amount of Matter in an object. What is matter?

Volume is the amount of space that an object takes up. How do you find volume?

Density Density is the amount of matter in a specific volume. Density describes how tightly packed the particles are in a substance.

The volumes of these two objects are the same The volumes of these two objects are the same. Will the mass be the same? Which object contains more matter?

This photo shows particles in a solid, a liquid, and a gas This photo shows particles in a solid, a liquid, and a gas. What do you notice about the particles?

How do you measure density? 1. Measure the mass of an object. 2. Measure the volume of an object. 3. Use this equation: Density= Mass / Volume 4. Units for mass= grams or Kilograms 5. Units for volume= cm3 or Milliliters Solids= cm3 Liquids= Milliliters

Questions to check understanding… 1. What objects would you guess would have high density? 2. What objects would you guess would have low density? 3. What type of matter is more dense, a solid, a liquid, or a gas? 4. What causes an object to have more density? 5. How do you measure mass? 6. How do you measure volume of a rectangular solid? 7. Can we find density? How?
