How do Bacteria produce energy? BY: Cameron Davis, Preston Sanford, Alexys Anoweck, Chris Gallier

Cellular Respiration Cellular respiration is the process that is able to produce its own power through ATP It is a set of metabolic reactions who’s endgame produce ATP (the energy source for all living things) Hydrogen and Electron is what makes it possible for bacteria to produce power and enable an electron and hydrogen flow. To produce the hydrogen and the electron flow then you will need a lot of Cellular respiration, which means a lot of mud.

What we know about Bacteria ATP production produces the electrons which are vital for the battery to work The electrons flow through the anode and cathode It powers the battery by directing the electrons through the anode. The Anode is the positively charged electrode that the electrons must pass through while the cathode is negatively charged The electron flow travels from the Anode to the Cathode The electron flow is what produces energy for the battery as well as the Hydrogen

Microbial Fuel Cell The device we use to do this is called the Microbial Fuel Cell (MFC) One of the products of Cellular Respiration is CO2 because Oxygen is pushed into the bacteria. What powers the battery is actually the electron and Hydrogen flow. The hydrogen flow will move through the semi-permeable membrane (gelatin) while the electron flow flows from the anode to cathode and travels through a conductor (this could be a metal wire) Your prototype should be modeled after this diagram

Semi-Permeable Membrane The semi-permeable membrane serves as a wall that only the H+ can get through as this is on of the processes that power the battery Electron Flow While the semi permeable membrane means to move the hydrogen flow, the wire that connects the anode and cathode is there to move the electrons.
