BDF subgroup study scope “Complete the technical feasibility studies of a Bump Dump Facility as input to the SHiP comprehensive design study (CDS)” Aiming to deliver a preliminary Comprehensive Design Report of a general purpose fixed target facility for high intensity beam dump experiments in SPS complex Proposed NA siting of SPS BDF Facility to be located in the North Area, Prevessin site, designed to receive the full power SPS beam 1 March 2017 BG - SPS BDF - PBC WS March 2017

BG - SPS BDF - PBC WS March 2017 BDF NEW FACILITIES EXISTING SITUATION Slow extraction into TT20 channel using existing septa Replace splitter 1 by laminated splitter/switch magnets Beam for BDF is deflected towards Jura side by new splitter/switch magnets and 17 MBB magnets The beam exits from TDC2 via a junction cavern into the extraction tunnel The extraction tunnel: long to allow beam size to grow as well as getting away from the existing facilities (TCC2) Target cavern houses Mo+W target, water-cooled, followed by 5 m of iron (hadron stop) 1 March 2017 BG - SPS BDF - PBC WS March 2017 2015 version (SHiP TP)
