Presentation transcript:

HTEN's primary purpose is to act as a forum for discussion and debate of history teacher education issues, and to disseminate recent research findings. HTEN encourages and promotes research into the learning and teaching of history at all levels by both new and experienced researchers. HTEN embraces both Initial Teacher Education and the Continuing Professional Education of history teachers, and also those involved in other aspects of history teacher education, such as museums education. A

Primary colleagues last year requested examples of excellent practice in primary history. The HA website provides these and other ways to connect with primary colleagues, for example: https://www.history.org.uk/primary/categories/893/module/8652/quality-mark-case-study-ashton-gate-primary-schoo HTEN members Ali Messer and Rachele Morse are providing a session on mentoring new teachers as part of the main conference on Saturday afternoon A

Questions for this year: What links should there be between organisations such as HTEN, the HA and the new Chartered College? What do HA members think of the proposals for teacher education reform proposed by Teacher Education Exchange? https://www.bera.ac.uk/blog/teacher-development-3-0-universities-and-profession-led-teacher-education A

The 4 design principles for Teacher Development 3.0 Plan for a long-life teaching profession. We need people who stay in the teaching profession for reasonable lengths of time in order to achieve sustainable, positive change. Put schools, universities and teachers at the heart of their communities Schools bind local communities together … See education as cultural and societal development We need to take a long, hard look at what we mean by a ‘good education’. Provide a continuum of professional learning We have to be more imaginative about how universities contribute to a model of ‘long, thin’ teacher development A
