Politburo Leading decision making body of Communist Party. Made all key decisions. Set up in 1919. Met daily and had between 7 and 9 members chosen by central committee.

Central Committee of the Communist Party (CCCP) Ran party affairs when congress was not sitting. 30-40 members. Had been main body of party until 1919.

Congress Included representatives from city and regional party organisations and its’ purpose was to debate and vote on main policies. Although after 1921 few decisions of central committee were questioned.

City and provincial parties Delegates to congress came from this level and party secretaries at this level often had important position.

Local parties Being a Party member gave people many benefits and therefore many people joined these groups.

Final Thoughts Lenin introduced a communist state / dictatorship through: The use of the Cheka Propaganda Centralised control of government, economy, and everyday life 1922 – Russia was officially called the USSR (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics) The CPSU controlled the Government as key officials in the Government were members of the party and those who held senior positions in one also held senior positions in the party!
