ARCA - The Romanian Forum for Refugees and Migrants NGO created in 1998 Number of staff: …. and volunteers: … Mission: to support the fulfillment of human potential of each person who is a refugee, migrant or is repatriating to Romania AND To facilitate their integration in the Romanian society

Integration for Refugees in Romania Project objectives: monitoring of refugees integration in Romania through close cooperation with responsible authorities and interdisciplinary teams including: multidisciplinary assistance (social and legal), advocacy activities to support and implement consistent integration policies adapted to the refugees needs, raising public awareness about refugees integration programs, elaborating comparative research materials on integration issues.

Integration for Refugees in Romania Target group: refugees from 6 Regional Centres: Bucharest, Somcuta Mare, Giurgiu, Radauti, Galati, Timisoara

Integration for Refugees in Romania Activities (selection): 1.Planning and conducting a participatory assessment with population of concern in the 6 Regional Centers. The evaluation's results will be used to verify if integration policies and legislation is consistent with refugees needs and to improve, if necessary, our services and activities to their benefit; 2.Training of 2 community workers in order to facilitate the involvement of persons with a protection form in their community management. Each one of the community worker will fulfill her/his duties in one of the Regional Centers for providing assistance to persons of concern

Integration for Refugees in Romania Activities (selection): 3. Facilitating and monitoring the local integration process. ARCA staff provided information, counseling and assistance for the target group in order to facilitate their social integration and access to their rights. Coordination meetings with relevant authorities have been organized to analyse the extent to which legal remedies are provided and relevant legislation is implemented to facilitate the integration of target group, 4. Empowerment of the refugee community: 2 refugee community workers were employed and worked under the supervision of the senior ARCA staff in order to foster a more effective monitoring of the target group situation and improve prospects for their local integration as a sustainable /durable solution.

Providing classes on Romanian language and culture, history, geography, Constitution, European values and principles (unique: one to one teaching method in order to address refugees needs), 6. Measures to improve education quality and learning achievement through booklets (Teachers Guide) and teacher training.

Integration for Refugees in Romania Addapting the legal framework to the context It makes integration posible, opens the access to the market or to the community by advocate for changing the blocking/out-dated rules. Adapting the legal framework to the chances of values/ goals governing the societies

Integration for Refugees in Romania Elaboration of the Teachers Guide and Teaching Methodology for refugees Systematising the gained experience. Organising simple and efficient measures of approaching/teaching/learning about refugees in order to integrate them into the labour market and to socially integrate them, as well.

Integration for Refugees in Romania To include and consult a refugees reprezentative for the elaboration of the training course It makes communication possible (here, it drops the intercultural misunderstandings, by pointing out the sensitive aspects from both parts). Nobody can better understand and empathizes with the refugees than a refugee who experienced the same process

Integration for Refugees in Romania To include in the training course for refugees the presentation of a success story belonging to and presented by a refugee It makes the perspective feazable for refugees and gives a better understanding over the Romanian reality (it is close or part to the practical component of the courses).

Integration for Refugees in Romania The contact of an ARCA representative with the refugee and its employer after the employment moment Sheltering the trainees, guiding and smoothing their integration in local community, translating unusual habits of both employer and employee/ community and the new entry.
