Bullet Holes in Glass

What can you learn from bullet holes in glass? Direction of shooter Sequence the shots were fired in? By looking at the radial fractures Angle the shots were fired

Entrance vs. Exit Holes How can you tell from which direction a gun was fired? Entrance holes are neater and clean cut, smaller Exit holes are large and messy.

Sequence of Shots How can you tell the order in which shots were fired? Look at the radial fractures. An existing fracture will stop a new fracture. Older fractures will have longer radial fractures. Once new shots are fired, their radial fractures will end at the radial fractures of older shots.

Sequence of Shots – What’s the order? B A C

Shots Fired from Different Angles

Shots Fired from Different Angles Shot from the Left Shot from the Right These are entrance holes fired from different angles. What’s the difference between shots from the left and shots from the right?

Shots Fired from Different Angles Shot from the Left Shot from the Right These are exit holes fired from different angles. What’s the difference between shots from the left and shots from the right?

Shots Fired from Different Angles What differences will be seen in shots fired from different angles? Chipping around exit holes Chipping will be even if fired from straight on If a bullet enters from the right, there will be more chipping on the left. There will be short radial fractures on the right and longer radial fractures on the left; it would be reversed in shots fired from the left. To determine which angle a shot was fired from, use test shots in same type of glass.
