India The Jewel in the Crown

Grab your student’s book! And a pencil... Your task is as follows: for 4 minutes Just write down anything that comes to mind when you think about India do not care about spelling, conjugating verbs or anything else regarding the English language http://www.online- stopwatch.com/countdown- timer/

Sharing is? Caring So what could possibly happen next?

pen and paper please!

India – a very diverse country Read pages 30-31 together with your shoulder partner The caste system https://www.youtube.com/wat ch?v=SZyPQ-zh_xE https://www.youtube.com/wat ch?v=j1dbksj22Ds

The caste system Compare the Indian society to the American society. What are the differences? What are the similarities? Work with the task together with your trusted partner. Use each other and the book the first 10 minutes. Then you have 5 minutes where you can use other sources as well.

Why was often India referred to as «The Jewel in the Crown» during colonial times? Answer the question in writing. You may cooperate with the person beside you  India's wealth and rich resources made it the most valuable territory claimed by the British Empire, hence the "jewel" of the Empire. Tea, rice, spices and textiles were among the profitable items that were shipped from India to Europe.

A switch in next week’s homework GET ALL THE WORDS FROM THE PAGES ABOUT INDIA ON QUIZLET DOWN IN YOUR GLOSSARY BOOK We will get back to readtheory again.. Feel free to still use it and practice as much you would like ;) Pick 5 words that you try to explain in English Pick 5 words that you use correctly in a sentence Draw a picture where you include as many as the new words in a natural way (at least 5 different ones!) Use a whole page. Use quizlet to practice

Today we will listen while we follow the text in our book Today we will listen while we follow the text in our book. Page 32 please! 1. How would you describe the traffic in Inida? What can expect to meet in the middle of the road? 2. What does it mean to get a «Dehli belly»? 3. What is the Taj Mahal? 4. What is Ganges?

A thought experiment... Let us pretend that everyone in Elverum treated Glomma the way Hindus use the river Ganges. How would life in Elverum be like then? How would this effect your way of life and the things you do? 15 minutes of writing on your own dead quiet in class you will get the chance to share your thoughts and ideas later on ;) Tip: think cause and effect. «if this happens, this will lead to... Because...»

Mahatma Gandhi Time to work on your own Who was Gandhi? You saw the film about him in Christianity, religions and ethics I believe? Time to work on your own Who was Gandhi? What can you tell me about him? Talk about Gandhi and what you remember about him for 3 minutes on your table. IN ENGLISH OF COURSE! Work your way through pages 35-37 and tasks 1-6.
