Dream Project Inspire to breath Low-cost bubble bCPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) for children suffering from Respiratory Distress

The Team: Blazing Fire Pallab Dey: ID- 1530587690 Md. Asadul Islam: ID- 1725031660 Md.Shawket Ali Hossain Aiyan: ID-1331063060 Shahiur Rahman : ID-1725030660 Mahmood Abedin Khan: ID- 0920569090

Introduction Acute respiratory infections are the leading cause of global child mortality Respiratory conditions associated with premature birth contribute to about 30% of neonatal death. In Bangladesh, under five child mortality was 144 per 1000 in 1990 In 2015 the rate dropped to 38 per 10000 45 % of these occurs in the neonatal period- first 28 days of life A significant part is contributed by prematurity (birth before 32 weeks) and pneumonia and sepsis. These condition is associate with Collapse lung air sac, difficulty in breath, lack of oxygen in blood and death

The Problem and the solution In developed health systems, such conditions can be treated using bubble Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (bCPAP), a therapy that delivers pressurized flow to an infant to prevent air sac collapse and makes breathing easier. The typical bCPAP setup used in such settings costs anywhere from $6,000, making it inaccessible to most health facilities in developing countries. In resource-constrained settings for babies in respiratory distress is usually low-flow oxygen therapy, which on its own is inadequate.

High resource Vs Low resource bCPAP Prematurity and pneumonia: collapsed Lung Alveoli (Air sac) Air can’t enter Respiratory Distress Lack of O2 Hypoxia Death Babble CPAP in low resource setting: Prototype developed by RICE University cost 600 USD for West Africa Indian CPAP cost around 1500 Babble CPAP in high resource setting The F&P Bubble CPAP System Cost around 6000 -10,000 USD

Inspire to breath Inspire prototype development

SWOT Strength: Technical expertise is available Low cost to set up the initial project Pioneer in the field of Medical Device market Opportunity: Growing economy > increasing medical Budget Pneumonia and other chronic respiratory diseases are prevalent Neonatal and infantile pneumonia is still the major causes of morbidity and mortality Government policy to encourage local solution for medical treatments Weakness : No such experience in device industry Funding for R & D and other clinical trials Threat: Low cost alternative from neighboring India/ China

Medical Device Industry Analysis Bangladesh Current market situation: Estimated market in 2014 : USD 145.8 mn; 2018 ; >USD 200 mn One of the fastest growth rates in the world, at 14.5% annually, to 2018 Almost 100% are imported (except disposable syringe, saline set, inhalers and limb prosthesis) Market segmentation: Diagnostic-Therapeutic –Disposable Per therapeutic areas Govt, Institutional , Individual, Target market: Respiratory Devices: 100 % imported except inhalers which used in the Pharma industry. Respiratory monitor and diagnostics Respiratory disposable Therapeutic Device Humidifiers Nebulizer Positive Airway Pressure Devices Ventilators Inhalers Market Size: Babble CPAP is not available in the market. Only the financially sound patients are referred to ICU for Ventilator Support with may cost 30,000 -100, 000 BDT / day with many complication

Business Model Babble cPAP Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) Pediatric Society of Bangladesh Society of respiratory medicine Bangladesh Institute of Child Health Bangladesh Nursing Association Product development Product Validation Clinical Trial DGDA Approval Trade Mark Education & Training Service & maintenance Scientific publication Conference Reduce neonatal Mortality Avoid Oxygen toxicity Early recovery from RDS Low-cost Easy to operate Locally repairable Ministry of Health NGO working in maternal & child health Private Hospitals & Clinics Armed Forces Medical Facilities Medical Device Distributor Medical Supply distributors ISO Assembling Bio-medical Engineers Team Financing Development cost Cost of production Regulatory and Clinical trial cost Maintenance Government Bulk Purchase Institutional sales Distributor sales

Marketing Plan Integrated marketing communication: Publication of the local clinical Trial in Medical Journals Include bubble CPAP in the local pneumonia management guideline Advertorials in news paper for general awareness Press release and meet the press Dedicated website for patient for awareness and for health care professionals, wholesalers and retailers for device training Scientific session on role of bCPAP in reducing neonatal mortality and morbidity in local and regional medical conference F2F training session for health care professionals

Marketing mix: Product: low cost babble CPAP Positioning Strategy: Low-cost babble CPAP is life saving for the babies suffering from Respiratory distress due to prematurity or Pneumonia and as effective as the high end l babble CPAP One twentieth the price of a High end bubble CPAP Competitive Strategy: Promote the bCPAP procedure to save life of the patient s instead of promoting the machine Educational/ Training Session for doctor and nurses; F2F and online Generate and share local data on efficacy and safety of the using bCPAP Place: Local Market (Govt. Tender; Medical Device Wholesalers) Price: 350 USD (1/20 of the high end machine) Affordable and accessible to the rural and low socio-economic setting Promotion: Medico-marketing Epidemiological Study on Prematurity and neonatal and infantile pneumonia Local clinical study to establish efficacy and safety Publication in journals, Posters in Local Medical Conference / seminar symposium Involve local Pediatric Society Awareness among the parents
