Steps and Walks Jazz walk Jazz Square Pivot Posture is low, and feet slightly drag across the floor in this modified walk used for traveling across the stage. A smooth, sassy step in which a dancer completes a square with four steps. 1. Step forward on the right foot. 2. Cross the left foot over the right. 3. Step back with the right foot. 4. Bring the feet side by side. One foot steps in front of the other, and then the body pivots around back into the original position.

Kicks Fan Kick Layout Extension The body stays in place while one leg starts inward and kicks all the way around to its original position. These are often used in kick lines and Broadway-style routines. One leg is kicked up in the air, while the torso is leaned back into as dramatic an arch as possible. Head should be dropped back and arms should also be extended backward, almost able to touch the floor. An arm or leg extended outward and held for a determined pause of movement.

Turns Axle Knee Turn Calypso Alle Seconde Starting with a chene turn, one leg goes up into passé, followed by the other, developing into a fully rotating jump in the air. A basic chene turn, only it is executed on one or both knees. A turning jump in which the front leg is straight and the back leg is bent in attitude 90 degrees. A turn in which your working leg stays straight for the entire rotation.

Jumps Stag Firebird Leap Switch leap A very high jump, simulating splits in the air, only one leg is bent so the foot is tucked under the knee. A leap in which the back leg is bent at 90 degree angle and while keeping the front leg straight. The back and head should be arched. A leap in which the back leg brushes front then swings to back again.

Other Stuff Ball Change Drops Illusion A change of weight distribution on the balls of the feet. There are also ball change turns A controlled fall from an isolated position. Step on your right foot. Go into a 180 degree arabesque with your left leg and pivot your foot. Then brush leg in arabesque to a front grand battement.
