How does Jeff Smith Create a Graphic Novel?

Chapter One: Mrs. Whatsit

Another example of how it could look!

Graphic Novel Rubric 13 pages-1 per chapter and a title page: Earned Points Possible Title page with name   / 5 Chapter title from novel is on every page Thorough summary of each chapter included / 20 4 different pieces of text evidence for each chapter are included / 30 Each chapter is colored / 10 Utilized majority of page for each chapter’s illustration, text evidence, and summary / 5 Quality of time demonstrated/neatness/effort / 25 TOTAL / 100

Scene or Actions That Occur This is where you explain the scene or action you are going to draw You may have multiple scenes or actions, but separate them like a comic book page would. Be as detailed as you can.

Characters Present Which characters are in the scene or action you wrote down? Each chapter has characters, so all graphic novel pages should have characters.

Landscape and Props Landscape describes the surrounding for the scene or action taking place. Refer back to that category. (woods, garden, clouds, storm) Props are items used in the scene or action. Again refer back to that category. (sheets, broom, flowers, ball)

Captions/Text Evidence Dialogue Box/Bubble Thought Bubble Text Box You should have 4 on each page so use 4 on your organizing pages.
