Audience Target group for viewing something (paper, speech, commercial, book, movie etc) target group of a speech, an ad, a paper/ who the information is directed to/ word choice and examples need to be considered for audience for appropriateness

Character Development How a character grows and changes throughout a story.

Citation Reference to a source

Dialect Pattern of speech from certain region or time period

Dramatic Irony When the audience knows something that the character doesn’t

Gerunds An –ing word used as a noun or the subject of a sentence

Infinitive to + verb

Mediums Different formats for sharing information (commercials, internet, textbooks, radio, etc)

Paraphrase Put ideas into your own words

Participles An –ing word being used as an adjective

Plot Elements The events that make up a story

Propaganda slanted information to convince people to believe a certain side of a situation

Quote Copying information word for word and giving credit to its source

Situational Irony The opposite of what you expect to happen occurs

Stereotype Making judgments about people or things based on characteristics that are true for some

Suspense Building of tension in a story causing the reader to wonder what will happen next

Theme The overall lesson or message of a story

Thesis One sentence that explains what an entire paper will be about

Verbal Irony When a character says the opposite of what they feel.

Viewer perception how the audience interprets the information presented- differs per person based on interest, knowledge, etc.
