Recommendations are not only useful for college admissions. They can be used to help you get a job, earn a scholarship, and prepare you for exit interviews. It’s important to let your teachers know that you will be wanting recommendations from them in your Junior year because you will most likely be taking your most difficult classes during this year. While not all jobs will require that you supply a letter or recommendation, ALL jobs ask that you supply them with references. References are people that employers can contact in order to ask about your performance and character. It’s helpful to know the people who will vouch for you in these cases and to make sure these recommenders and references have a clear picture of who you are and what you are capable of and passionate about. One resource that has been very useful to students at Lincoln is called a Brag Sheet. The Brag Sheet asks you to answer several questions about YOU including: Activities Volunteer work Academics Awards Interests Adjectives to describe yourself Challenges you’ve overcome Goals This provides your teachers with GREAT information which will help them to make you look great to perspective employers and admissions officials. You may also want to give them your resume or personal statement if you have one! The more info they have about you, the better.
