Presentation transcript:

Bellringer: All directional terms are relative to proper anatomical position. Review each sentence below to verify if the correct directional term was used. If the sentence is incorrect, supply a term which would make it correct. The mouth is superior to the nose. The stomach is inferior to the mammary area. The nose is medial to the left eye. The hand is proximal to the elbow. The knee is distal to the ankle. The vertebral area is lateral to the axillary area. Homework: Rd 15-19, Q 7-9 and 20 pg 23

Cold Call

Anatomical Position Position of body that is assumed when using directional terms. Reference frame Left or right?

Caudal vs. Cranial AKA?

Axial vs. Appendicular

Four-legged Animals Anterior and Posterior have a different meaning! Anterior- towards head Posterior- towards tail

Body Planes Sliced up like lunch meat for science! CAT scans + MRI’s Visible Human Project Fold a piece of paper into quarters; each will represent a type of body plane. -Record: title of plane, definition, illustration

4 Types: Sagittal (median, mid-, para-) Transverse Frontal -Record: title of plane, definition, illustration 4 Types: Sagittal (median, mid-, para-) Transverse Frontal (coronal, “crown”) Oblique

Gummy Bear Dissection Use your knowledge of anatomical direction and planes to dissect a 3D specimen
