Early European Settlement in North America

Essential Question Who were the first European settlers in North America, where did they come from and why did they come? What was their overall impact on the area they colonized as well as their home country?

Who were they? Names of the founders, their benefactors and prominent members

When and Where did they settle? Explain in detail when it was settled and where the settlement was located as well as why they settled there

Why did they come? Explain why the settlers arrived there in particular What was the purpose of the settlement?

What did it look like? Were they farmers? Traders? Trappers? Explorers? Were they successful?

Treatment of Native population Detail the relationship that the settlers developed with the native population where they settled Did this change over time?

Significance What was the overall significance of the settlement? How long did it last? Still there today? What was the lasting impact on the region they settled? What was the impact on Europe?
