Quality Learning Work group Activities: Define a framework of quality STEM experiences that focuses on Project Based Learning and Real World experiences A checklist of quality attributes and characteristics that can be used when examining STEM/STEAM programs, resources and initiatives An initial list of quality learning resources that are known to be research- based and recognized by state and national entities. This list will be developed further as members of the Ecosystem add their resources Develop an online hub for quality STEAM Learning experiences

Quality Learning Work group Common Language: Definitions Habits of Mind - set of 16 problem solving, life related skills, necessary to effectively operate in society and promote strategic reasoning, insightfulness, perseverance, creativity and craftsmanship. The Four Cs for 21st Century Learning – NEA’s partnerships with leaders in education, business, and policy circles for 21st Century Skills forged a common vision for education that they believe will prepare our young people for college, work, and life. In particular that every child should possess strong content mastery, as well as the “Four Cs”: critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. P21 Framework definitions -

Quality STEM Learning Characteristic Checklist     Does the Program …? Developing Integrated Model Focus on developing critical thinking skills for 21st Century Learning Allow for Communication of thoughts and ideas effectively using oral, written, and nonverbal communication skills in a variety of forms and contexts. Provide opportunities for Collaboration and Shared Responsibility with others Use a wide range of idea creation techniques (such as brainstorming) to create new and worthwhile ideas (both incremental and radical concepts). Encourage open and responsive thought to new and diverse perspectives while incorporating group input and feedback into the work. Align with state, national, international and/or industry standards. Have connections to effective in- and – out-of-school STEM programs. Have an integration of technology and virtual learning. Use authentic assessment and exhibition of STEM skills. Integrates STEM that can be used across curriculum domains. Provide an avenue to elaborate, refine, analyze, and evaluate original ideas to improve maximized creative efforts. Support differentiated learning for all students. Focus on and supports underserved, especially females, minorities, and economically disadvantaged. Support the pertinent state’s Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Plan.
