Obejective I can demonstrate proper planting procedures by planting plugs for the greenhouse sale.

Wednesday 12/13/17 Create a new section in your notebook “Phases of the Estrus Cycle” We will not need technology today. Please put phones away in your bag or pocket. Then answer the following questions in your notebook. 1) The past few days we have looked at the reproductive cycles in cattle, if you were a farmer/rancher or worked in the cattle industry, why do you think it would be important to understand the estrus cycle? 2) Many other animal species of animals go through the estrus or menstral cycle. In what ways do you think it is similar to that of cattle? How might it be different?

Objective I can explain the phases of the estrus cycle by creating a visual representation of each phase. TDOE AFNR Agriscience Standard 20) Describe the structures and functions of the male and female animal reproductive systems. Compare and contrast the differences of the reproductive systems between small and large animal species.

In your groups…….Find your role. Each member will become an expert on one of the 4 phases of estrus. 1. Proestrus 2. Estrus 3. Metestrus 4. Diestrus/Anestrus Assign who will be the expert on area each now!

In your groups….. become the expert. Take 5 minutes to read your assigned section. Highlight or underline information you think is important in the text. Jot down in your notebook 2 main points from the reading you feel your group should know about your assigned phase. Remain silent until you are told otherwise. If you finish early, begin reading about the other phases in the text.

In your groups…… be the expert. Take turns teaching your group members about your phase. Make sure your group talks about them in order. 1) Proestrus, 2) Estrus, 3) Metestrus, 4) Diestrus/Anestrus As you talk about at each phase, make sure everyone in your group is recording information to complete the chart. Phase Days Short Definition Events (List 3-4) Proestrus 0-1 Estrus 2-4 Metestrus 17-21 Diestrus/Anestrus 5-17

As you Exit On post-it note, answers the following: Place the post-it on the back window as you exit. After analyzing each phase of estrus, during what phase do you believe would be the best time for a cattle producer to breed his or her cows? Please explain why? What do you think are some of the signs that might indicate a cow is about to begin the phase of sexual receptivity?

Estrus Bracelet Make a bracelet using the materials provided to describe the phases of the estrus cycle. Each bead must have a meaning! Each color chosen must have a meaning! There is not limit to the number bead. Sketch your bracelet in your notebook, (Must receive a stamp before you begin putting your bracelet together. Ex- estrus last 2 days. I used 2 red beads on my bracelet.
