DO WE HAVE AN ISSUE? In India, 28 motorcyclists died every day in 2016 because of their failure to wear helmets. This amounts to 10,220 (the population of Davos!) Motorcyclists are 26 times more likely to die than drivers of passenger cars in an accident Wearing helmets: improves the chances of survival by 42 % Helps avoid 69% of injuries to riders

What is really happening? Affordability Cultural reasons Long trips Weather conditions Hairstyle and Hair loss Headache and Neck Pain Turbans Child headgear? Tax Incentives Improving the image (making it cool) Prevents collision with flying insects Protects eyes from air and dust Technological and Design changes

Current Legislative Framework “Protective headgear” mandatory for all drivers Every two wheeler manufacturer has to provide protective headgear free-of-cost to the buyer Pillion riders (and other riders) – No uniformity in law Helmets – subject to 18% sales tax
