Cultivating the Highest Quality Music Standards Making the most out your quality Music EDUCATION

CORE BELIEFS 1. Every student should be exposed to HIGH quality music education regardless of social - economic status, race, or sex. 2. Even while a music organization (school or department) is in the growth process and casting a ”wide net” for exposure to music, there will be some students that will excel in music studies and performance. 3.The next generation of arts leaders (musicians) will come from our training. 4.Our schools should be evaluated not only be the number of students that we reach but also by the quality of music students that we train. 5. Student and organizations will have to partner and collaborate in order to create the highest quality music student.

UNDERSTANDING SUCCESS How do we know when our organization is successful. A. When we are fully funded? B. when we have reached a certain number of students in which we have direct or indirect contact? C. We met or exceed Chicago Public School or NAfME Curriculum Standards ? D. When we have the facilities in order promote artistic and cognitive learning? E. When our students demonstrate an extremely high level of artistic, intellectual, and personal mastery; student will be prepared to embark on successful careers and productive lives as artists and touring musical professionals within the US and abroad, as well as leaders in their professions.

Conquering To Quality In creating a musical Quality path for our students that will ultimately define our organizational success, what are some of the barriers and challenges that would stand in the way of creating Quality? Family structure Family values Cultural values Teacher support , private lessons and coaching Peer support Other resources Financial support

Cultivating Quality As we create Quality students, what are some of the characteristics that are essential for students that have already succeeded artistically. Family structure – support both emotionally and financially Family values – an awareness and affinity for artistic expression. Teacher support , private lessons, mentoring and coaching Peer support Other resources Financial support Will continue to elevate its educational and artistic standards and remain responsive to changing conditions in the worldwide performing arts community.

Identifying Excellence How many students of the total number of students that we we serve,, exemplify excellence and are viable candidates for additional supports and resources? How do we identify these students? Aptitude Desire Support Resources both internal and extranal

Resources NAfME Standards : https://nafme.org/my-classroom/curriculum-units-2014- music-responding-standards/ http://www.nbpts.org/wp-content/uploads/ECYA-MUSIC.pdf http://chicagoguide.cpsarts.org/music https://chicago.suntimes.com/entertainment/whitney-morrisons-journey- from-gospel-to-opera-leads-to-the-lyric/

Conclusion The success of our music programs and organizations is contingent on the success of its students. Yes, funding, facilities, and size of student population is important, but ultimately, we, as a music organizations are charged with creating the next generation of artistic musical leaders. We can ”hang our hats” on our students who have graduated from our programs in order to make a difference in the art world through their expression and training. Our successful students should be able to: Continue to elevate its educational and artistic standards and remain responsive to changing conditions in the worldwide performing arts community. Become members in various music societies and noted affiliations. Master business management for the their artistic discipline. Work collaboratively in creative environments and involving themselves in the artistic and educational life of the community they serve. Uphold a commitment to the diversity in the arts and an openness to new and innovative creative ventures. Take an active role in shaping the future of the arts at a global level by providing exemplary, cutting edge artist expression and academic writings as well as advocating for the arts. Engage in expanding the global audience experiences and serving as a thought leader in the global conversation about the importance of the performing arts Then we can consider ourselves A Quality Music Organization.
