Dangling modifiers

Definition of dangling modifiers Modifiers: when a modifiers word are missing here you need to add in word to correct the sentence. Dangling modifiers cause confusion when there is no specific subject in the sentence.

How modifiers dangle Modifiers has more information about something, in that means the something it is modifiers or limiting has to exist. Dangling modifiers can sometimes exist and get lost in the complexity of language.

Example “Hoping to excuse my lateness, the note was written and given to my teacher.” The right answer: “Hoping to excuse my lateness, I wrote a note and give it to my teacher” Why? Because we need the subject that is modified by Hoping to excuse my lateness, since obviously the note didn’t have those hopes.

Example “After reading the great new book, the movie base on it is sur to be exiting .” The answer: “After reading the great new book, Anna thought the movie based on it was sure to be exciting.” Why? A subject must be added so the modifier has something to describe, change or limit.

Notes Dangling modifiers need to add in a word or word in order to improve the clarity of the sentence Modifier or provide more information in grammar, adverb, and adjective are both modifiers. Adjective modify verbs, adjective and other adverbs. Modifiers must be as close as possible to the thing they are modifying.

Thank you
