The Third of May 1808 was completed in 1814. Depicts execution of Spanish civilians (5000 killed) by French commanding army (put in Spain by Napoleon) Victim’s white shirt represents innocence The central hero's appearance and clothing indicate he is an ordinary anonymous man at the center of a great tragedy. The Enemy (French Army) is faceless. Though on his knees, the central figure is a giant towering above all at the very moment before his death.
