LEADERSHIP: PART ART, PART SCIENCE Session 2 Wendy Whiting Blome, LICSW, PhD

Today’s Schedule Agenda—Session 1 Review the basic concepts and theories of leadership   Separate leadership from management Differentiate transactional and transformational leadership Agenda—Session 2 Provide an opportunity for participants to self-assess their leadership capabilities

Leadership Experiences In groups of two discuss the scenario on the handout. Who are the partners in this situation? What is the vision? What personal skills do you bring to this situation? What areas of growth do you identify for yourself as a leader in this effort? What would a leader in this situation do, say, know, or believe? As a leader how will you know if progress is being made?

Leadership Traps… The Collaborative Leadership Institute has identified seven common traps that get in the way of effective leadership Complete the seven question tool on the first page and a half. Break into pairs and discuss any elements you marked as a 3 or 4 or 5 Discuss with your partner the tips for avoiding each ‘trap’ you marked offered on pages 2-4

Next week when you return to your office… What will you DO differently? What will you SAY differently? What will you BELIEVE differently? What will you KNOW that is different?

Thank You…and Best Wishes
