Music & text Starts as motivational music, within the theme of crime and would be seen in a police montage for a training camp etc. Then a straight, abrupt cut to Slim Shady for comedic effect and genre. This music continues until dialogue is used when it is faded out. This comedic effect is used to make us see the character on screen as uncool and envious of someone like Slim Shady. Flashing lights and text appears with non-diegetic sound of a busy street with people talking and sirens in the background. This symbolises the action genre and crime genre by creating busy effect and building up anticipation. The flashing lights and text to correspond with it links with the crime genre as it symbolises police sirens and is usually seen on stereotypical police cars. The escalating heart beat

Camera Shots In many of the camera shots within the opening scene the word “prom” is plastered around subliminally. This is a juxtaposition as audiences wouldn’t usually associate “prom” with an action/crime genre. This is connected to the type of audience to producer has targeted. In the first over the shoulder mid shot watching Schmitt walking alone into a large crowd of people showing he is isolated and alone, despite the juxtaposing music building him up as a “gangster”. This want to be Slim Shady type character can be linked back to genre as people such as Slim Shady are usually heavily linked to crime. In the long two person shot it shows the two previously contrasting characters in very similar positions. The two different personalities, one being a “jock” and the other being a “nerd” are seen together but alone in the same scene both experiencing the same thing.
