Situation NHS cervical screening programme is available to women aged 25 to 64 in England Women with SMI have a lower cervical cancer screening rate (63%) than those without mental health problems (83%) Previously we asked the question on admission…..then advise to contact GP on discharge Average length of stay for inpatients – 39 days…. Welcome Main title for slide set Optional sub title or name

Background Maximise accessibility to, and availability of, cervical screening to this vulnerable group of women. Remove barriers to cervical screening and improve the service user experience, whilst making effective use of NHS resources.

Assessment Uploaded to the Life system – follow the story. Driver diagram on table for you!

Welcome Benefits to all Main title for slide set Opportunity for women to have screening in an NHS environment that is familiar, supportive and comfortable at a time that is right for them. Waiting for/at appointments is a barrier to the uptake of screening. Involve female service users and nursing team to work proactively together and make this idea a reality. Education for both groups. Minimise anxiety or adverse psychological aspects of screening. Offer screening as part of the “whole” female inpatient package by using a flexible, timely, whole person centred approach demonstrating sensitivity. Maximise trust with a professional that is familiar and offers choice to the woman through communication and consultation. Reduce embarrassment through education and facts around cervical screening, including instruments used and the procedure.   Welcome Main title for slide set Optional sub title or name

Measurement Linked to overall aims Main title for slide set Optional sub title or name Increase the offer of cervical screening to 100% of women on Dean Ward over a period of 6 months.   Increase the uptake of screening by women on Dean Ward to over 40% in the next 12 months

Welcome Update What have we achieved so far? Identified an “idea” that became a reality. Harnessed the enthusiasm and energy to proceed. Created a driver diagram, and a measurement strategy which gave credibility to the proposal Used the evidence for change to drive this forward. Most importantly …… Welcome Main title for slide set Optional sub title or name
