Four components of contemplative prayer
INTENTION I desire ‘not my will, but yours be done’. I need God’s help. (place hand over heart)
AWARENESS I am attentive to the sensation of my body, head and heart. (notice breath and movement - place hand over heart and belly)
ACCEPTANCE I begin with a ‘yes’ to be present to reality and the mystery of God in all that arises. (place hand on your leg, palm up)
SURRENDER I let go of all that arises in order to participate in the eternal flow of love. (gesture of hanging on and clinging – where you feel it followed by a gesture of release)
LOVE I handle myself lovingly and tenderly and carry this into the world.
