Recognizing Files Files are identified based on the three letter extension that follow the period in a file name Example: myfile.doc (file extension is .doc Word) yourfile.exe (file extension is .exe Program)
Extensions you Need to Know .doc – word document .xls – excel spreadsheet .ppt – powerpoint presentation .pub – publisher files .pdf – portable document file .exe – executable program .psd – photoshop file .jpg/.jpeg – joint photographic image .html – hypertext mark-up language
Naming Files Files should always be named descriptively so that they can be quickly identified Description names allow for easy organize and decreased chances of loss Folder Allows you to group your files into categories that all them to be found easier Similar to the binder that your course papers are in
