Clay Construction Techniques 1. Pinch Pot- thumbs are pressed into a sphere of clay while turning in a circle. Walls are pencil thick. 2. Coil Pot- clay rolled to pencil thickness, slipped and scored to attach to create sculpture 3. 4.

After you score you add slip

Then you attach the coil

Decorate the edges with your coils

Coils can intertwine or even make teardrops

Fragile piece, but coils can create a design

You don’t have to smooth out the coils

You can weave a lid

Flatten some coils and smooth out others

You can shave off the round part of the coils and engrave the other coils

Make coils and flatten the outside of them with a straight edge
