What is a File? A file is an object on a computer that stores data, information, settings, or commands used with a computer program. Files are used to store your most important data in a clean, efficient way.

Human Readable Human readable data is the form of data that can be read naturally by humans. Human readable is usually in ASCII or Unicode rather than binary. Some examples are: MRB's database MAISTAS rdfs

Computer Readable Computer or machine readable is a format that can be easily accessed by the computer. Some examples are: HTML RDF Microformats

Extensions A file extension is a group of letters occurring after a period in a file name, indicating the format of the file. Some examples are: .DOC - Microsoft Word Document .DOCX - Microsoft Word Open XML Document .LOG - Log File .PAGES - Pages Document .TXT - Plain Text File .MP3 - MP3 Audio File .WMV - Windows Media Video File .FNT - Windows Font File .CLASS - Java Class File .BAK - Backup File

File Types A file type is a name given to a specific file.
