USA involvement in WWII

Hideki Tojo (Prime Minister Japan) Organized the attack on Pearl Harbor and control of the Pacific Ocean

Japanese Aggression Need for raw materials (OIL) (oil 85% from USA) to create an empire Why? self-sufficient Dilemma: sever ties with Axis powers or go to war with USA

Pearl Harbor A surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii by the Japanese against the U.S. Pacific Fleet- December 7, 1941.

USS Arizona

Battle of Midway: A pivotal naval battles in the Pacific in June 1942. Battle of Guadalcanal: Island-hopping- gaining territory closer to the Japanese mainland 1942-45.
