What are the Post 16 options/terms? Further Education (FE) – Study that is taken after Secondary School (Post 16) Sixth Form – Usually offer A levels or BTEC courses College – Colleges usually offer A level, BTEC and Vocational courses to study e.g. Electrical Engineering or Childcare Apprenticeship – Apprenticeships are a way of earning while you learn. Students generally spend 4 days a week at work and 1 day at College to gain the qualification required for the apprenticeship. Further information can be found on Wakefield Apprenticeship hub www.wakefieldfirst.com or www.apprenticeships.org.uk Education until 18 (Raising the Participation Age RPA) – All students have to be in some form of education or training until they are 18

Advice & Guidance Overview All year 11 students have access to a careers advisor for a one to one careers appointment, if they request one Appointments are booked through Student Services - See Mrs Hussain Some students will be requested to be seen for additional support egg if they have SEN needs Parents are entitled to attend if they wish or can have a separate conversation Additional careers lessons are delivered through PSHE/Life lessons and support will be given to complete their Post 16 applications - UCAS Progress

UCAS Progress is an online application that your son/daughter will be completing for their options after Year 11. It allows them to complete just one application form but send to several providers Guidance will be given on the application process Students are given a username and password to log on to their own application profile. Logon’s will be given out at through their form tutors after 1 October 2015 Deadline for applying is the last Friday before Christmas – 18 December 2015 The earlier they apply – the earlier they will be offered a place at college/sixth form Parents support is crucial

Other available support We post relevant careers information on Edmodo on the ‘Be prepared’ section of student voice. This is especially useful for those who are interested in apprenticeships Make sure your child has registered!

Apprenticeships Dedicated support for students who are interested in apprenticeships All apprenticeships from the Hub are advertised on Edmodo by the careers team as are the apprenticeships from: https://www.gov.uk/apply-apprenticeship Visit Edmodo & the website regularly to look /search for vacancies Download the app to search for apprenticeship and keep updated instantly Apprenticeship for year 11’S are advertised as early as Christmas so they need to start early Apprenticeships are competitive – use networks/family friends Always apply for a back up e.g. full time college/sixth form course
