Questions?

Before You Start Doing Anything with A Laptop 10 Things to Know…

1. Computers don’t get sick days. It’s expected that your computer will work every day for any class in which it is needed.

2. The dreaded drop… How hard drives work Shut your computer down before it goes in your case. Dropping will cause damage, even if you don’t see it right away. How hard drives work

3. May the force never be with you. Never force a port, cord, cable, or drive. If it doesn’t fit, it’s probably bent.

4. Super hero, yes. Indestructable, no. Use the bag you’re provided, but use common sense, too.

5. Your laptop doesn’t get hungry or thirsty; don’t feed it. Keep food and beverages out of spillable distance from your computer. Avoid foods that might leave particles or stain your computer.

6. The power trip… Be careful how and where you plug in your laptop. Choose a safe spot to charge – away from pets, siblings, vacuums, traffic.

7. Prevent laptop meltdown. Shut down your computer before it goes in your bag. Understand your power settings.

8. Don’t let your laptop leave home unexpectedly. Your computer belongs with you or in your locked locker. Let us know if you lose your name tag.

9. Be careful what you install. Read and think before you click. Don’t install anything; force quit if you have to. Read All The Screen

10. Wellnology tips… BACK UP - Backup your files regularly. ERGONOMICS – It shouldn’t hurt to use a laptop. PASSWORDS - Passwords are like toothbrushes – don’t share. COMMUNICATE - Never communicate electronically what should be said face-to-face. POSTING - Once it’s online, it doesn’t go away (even if you might think it does). BALANCE - Don’t allow your technology dominate your life!
