Fundraising and Resources

Sources of advice on fundraising The Revd Lawrence MacLean, Diocesan Adviser for Fundraising and Sustainability Giving to Heritage has launched a heritage funding helpline where you can pose questions via email to a fundraising expert. They also have free to access webinars with six 45 minute training videos Heritage Lottery Fund online forum. A new forum - for anyone interested in applying for HLF funding, in receipt of a grant, or working on a heritage project - where you can pose HLF-related questions, exchange ideas, discuss common issues, share learning and successes. A dedicated place of worship forum is anticipated

Sources of funding: forthcoming opportunities Organisation Subject Deadline Wolfston Trust Fabric Repairs 12 September LPOW Security Security measures 20 September National Churches Trust Fabric Repairs 20 September AllChurches Trust Support mission ongoing of the Church Sussex Historic Churches Fabric Repairs Oct/Jan/June Heritage Lottery Fund Range of grant programmes ongoing

Landfill Communities Funds Fund to help mitigate the effects of landfill upon local communities. Landfill operators claim credit against their landfill tax payments by making contributions to an approved environmental body Churches can apply for funding for projects which involve ‘the repair, maintenance or restoration of a place of worship or a place of architectural importance’ if church is located within 10 miles of a landfill site Eligible works include heating and lighting, and the provision of new facilities ENTRUST head office: 01926 488300

Fundraising Tips Identifying sources of funding and making applications is time- consuming – parishes may want to think about identifying a designated person/sub-committee to research and make applications There is a knack to making successful applications – think about sending someone from your congregation for training When applying for grants, check if any nearby churches have had grants from the same organisation – get in touch to ask for a copy of their successful application and to ask for tips Make sure that you have all the information you’ll need before applying and think carefully about the timing
