REMEMBER AN INEQUALITY IS A STATEMENT THAT TWO QUANTITIES ARE NOT EQUAL. THE QUANTITIES ARE COMPARED USING ONE OF THE FOLLOWING SIGNS:

TO SOLVE ONE STEP INEQUALITIES BY ADDING OR SUBTRACTING YOU FOLLOW THE RULES OF THE INEQUALITY PROPERTIES. Property Numbers Algebra Addition Property of Inequality: You can add the same number on both sides of an inequality, and the statement will still be true. Subtraction Property of Inequality: You can subtract the same number on both sides of an inequality, and the statement will still be true.

SIMILAR TO SOLVING EQUATIONS, SOLVING INEQUALITIES BY ADDING OR SUBTRACTION REQUIRES YOU TO FOLLOW THE SAME PROCEDURE: Isolate the variable by performing inverse operations Inverse of addition is subtraction. The inverse of subtraction is addition. Perform the same operation on the side of the equal sign that doe not have a variable.

Division Property of Inequality: You can divide the same number on both sides of an inequality, and the statement will still be true.

Property Numbers Algebra Multiplication Property of Inequality: If you multiply the both sides of an inequality by the same negative number, then you must reverse the inequality for the statement to still be true. Division Property of Inequality: If you divide the both sides of an inequality by the same negative number, then you must reverse the inequality for the statement to still be true.
