Swamps Globally The red spots show the swamps around the world As you can see, South Asia, Australia and Northeast Africa have the most swamps.

Swamp Climate Swamps have lots of precipitation. That is how they are so wet and moist. Plants and animals rely on the climate to stay alive The climate is damp and usually in the 50’s or 60’s. A little acid rain would affect the environment very much.

Animals in Swamps

Animals in Swamps (Facts) Crocodiles- They can grow to be 6 feet tall and they can survive in saline (salt water) conditions. Herons- They can stand 4 to 8 feet high and the wing span is as tall as 6 feet Racoons-They are more closely related to panda’s not weasels If they fall 35 to 40 feet they will be unharmed and can run up to 154 mph! Foxes are related to dogs, not cats. They can weigh only 1.5 pounds.

Plants in Swamps

Plants in Swamps [fun facts] Hibiscus- Grow from 2-4 feet wide Hibiscus Tea could cause heart failure Swamp rose- It smells very good and it has a strong, good, scent and some blooms last 6-8 weeks. Mangroves- They block sunlight from other plants. It’s roots suck LOTS of nutrients Mangrove leaves can grow to 5 inches Mangrove’s are vital in the food chain for marine life Milkweeds attract butterflies and grows to 5 feet tall

Natural Disasters A common natural disaster for a swamp would obviously be a flood! Floods are a common natural disaster. They impact the environment by killing many animals and destroying habitats.
