Traditional African Religions African religion – Read page 136 in textbook provided rules for living protected people from harm guaranteed success in life. Traditional African religions shared the belief in 1. A single creator god and lesser gods, but these beliefs varied across the continent. Some West Africans believed god sent his son from heaven in a canoe. Once on Earth, the son created humans. In other religions, people believed that the supreme god had sons. Those sons were lesser gods. Some Africans believed that the creator god was on Earth but left because he was disappointed with human behavior. People would be forgiven by this god if they corrected their ways.
