Classroom procedures Theatre arts 2012-2013

Entering each day When you come in each day: Come in quietly Find your seat Get your materials out and put your backpack away Get started on your daily activity (posted on the chalkboard or projector) Sit quietly when you are done

Going over daily assignment All daily assignments are graded…you will receive participation credit for sharing your work with the class when we go over it…if you want to share: Raise your hand quietly Wait to be called upon Speak loudly and clearly when you share Once we go over the assignment they will be collected to be graded. It is your responsibility to turn it in and to make sure I get it

Getting your attention anywhere I will hold my hand up with my palm spread and count my fingers down from 5 to 1. Once I get to 1 there should be total silence There will be consequences for students who are still talking Consequences Warning/Asked to go over procedure Phone call home Office Referral

Hall passes Administrators have asked us to keep the halls cleared as much as possible, so hall passes will only be given in emergency situations. You can have only 4 emergencies per semester unless you have a doctor’s notes, No passes will be given 20mins after class has started and 20mins. before class ends (20/20 rule) No passes to the nurse unless bleeding, vomiting, or fever (per her request) No passes to other teacher’s class. If another teacher requests you they need to have provided you with a note beforehand. Third block use the bathroom after lunch before you come to class because you will not be allowed to go during the second half of class When asking to be excused with a hall pass raise your hand quietly, wait to be acknowledged, then state your request, fill out the hall pass and leave quietly

Fire drill When you heard the tone Get up quietly Form a single file line Proceed quietly through the hall to our specific exit Wait quietly outside until we are told to return to class Form a single file line and return to class

Sleeping There is no sleeping in class even if you have completed your work. If you finish early and have nothing else to do, let me know and I can issue you an extra credit assignment. If you sleep: You will be asked to wake up, if you don’t comply consequences will occur IF YOU ARE TIRED OR SICK YOU SHOULD HAVE STAYED HOME

GUESTS IN THE CLASS IF AN ADMINISTRATOR, A TEACHER, A PARENT OR SOMEONE FROM CENTRAL OFFICE COMES IN TOTAL RESPECT SHOULD BE GIVE TO THEIR PRESENCE THE NOISE LEVEL SHOULD BE SILENT IF YOU ARE DOING AN INDIVIDUAL ASSIGNMENT AND AT A MINIMUM IF YOU ARE DOING GROUP WORK

Group Collaboration We work in groups quite often in this course. There are procedures you should follow when getting into groups. There are three different ways groups are formed in this class: (1) I choose them (2) You choose them (3) Fate chooses them Once you are in groups everyone in that group has a responsibility to help that group succeed or fail. If you are in a group with someone you feel could hurt your grade YOU have to encourage them to work and be productive…if that doesn’t work I need to be notified and if the student still doesn’t comply, the student will be removed from the group and given a “0” for the assignment. While in groups stay on task or points will be deducted from your grade…this is not social time it is time to plan and practice your performance so use your time wisely. Group should be aware of their noise level for the sake of the other groups and other classes near us

Exiting class Remain seated until the bell rings, especially 4th block

Procedures skit Create a training video scene based on one of the classroom procedures. You will need: A host/narrator of the video Actors to reenact scenes You should have two scenes Of what not to do and the consequences Of what to do and the benefits Tell a story, make it flow should feel like a cheesy, light-hearted infomercial You have 20 minutes…remember the procedure to get your attention it will be used to conclude things for your group.

Finding important information Important information about tests, quizzes, things you should bring to class, things you should prepare for, deadlines, rehearsal dates, important dates will always be posted on the whiteboard. So govern yourself accordingly.
