Alcohol licensing conditions Some changes were made to the 2003 Licensing Act in 2010, which apply to all licensed premises in England and Wales that sell or supply alcohol. Conditions of the Licensing Act order 2010: A ban on irresponsible promotions A ban on dispensing alcohol directly to customers mouths Mandatory provision of free tap water An age verification policy must be in force Smaller measures must be available for customers Some changes were made to the 2003 Licensing Act in 2010, which apply to all licensed premises in England and Wales that sell or supply alcohol. Age verification policy People who appear to be under 18 should be asked, before they are served alcohol, to produce identification showing: Photograph Date of birth A holographic mark Examples include a photocard driving license, passport or proof of age card As a minimum, the age verification policy requires people who appear to be under 18 to be asked, before they are served alcohol, to produce identification showing: A Photograph Their Date of birth and A holographic mark Examples of acceptable ID are a photocard driving license, passport or proof of age card which meets the criteria. Staff who work on the premises and/or those who are responsible for selling alcohol must be made aware of the existence and the content of the age verification policy. It is good practice to have the policy in a prominent place so that people can see it.

Smaller measures If you are responsible for serving alcohol you must now make sure that alcoholic drinks are available in the following measures: Beer or cider – half pint measures Gin, rum or whisky – 25ml or 35ml measures Still wine in a glass – 125ml measures If you are responsible for serving alcohol you must now make sure that alcoholic drinks are available in the following measures: Beer or cider – half pint measures Gin, rum or whisky – 25ml or 35ml measures Still wine in a glass – 125ml measures You must also ensure that your customers are aware of the availability of these measures.
