Eligibility: General Who is eligible? Eligibility Guidelines: Currently enrolled undergraduate, graduate, continuing education, and medical students Current faculty Current benefits eligible staff Eligibility Guidelines: May play both one men’s/ fraternity and women’s/ sorority team and one co-rec team per division Must appear on official online IMLeagues roster before the first playoff game in order to be eligible for playoffs Ejected players who have been suspended are not eligible to play Individuals may not play under an assumed name

Eligibility: Varsity & Pro Athletes Varsity Athletes Not eligible for participation in the sport, or “like” sport in which they participate (includes red shirts & individuals “working out” with team). Ineligible to participate in the sport, or “like” sport, for one complete academic year after their varsity status ceases. Semi/Professional Athletes A person who has competed professionally in a sport or signed a professional contract is ineligible for five (5) years from the date of last professional participation in that sport or ‘like’ sport.

Eligibility: Sport Club Athletes Are eligible to participate in the same or ‘like’ sport with the following restrictions: No more than three (3) club players (men’s and women’s) may be listed on a roster

NWMS ID Policy All participants must present their Northwest student/staff identification (Bearcat Card) to participate in ANY intramural sports sponsored activity. Individuals forgetting their ID, may play provided they complete the Forgotten ID Form and adhere to the Campus Recreation Forgotten ID Policy. If an individual is unwilling to complete the form and follow the directions, then the individual will be ineligible to play. NO ID. NO PARTICIPATION. NO EXCEPTIONS. Falsifying identification information or using someone’s else’s ID will result, at a minimum, in the offending individual being suspended for the remainder of the sport season.

Scheduling: IMLeagues Regular season games will NOT be rescheduled. Schedules based on time and space availability with games potentially scheduled on religious holidays. Unable to play a scheduled game, team captain must notify the IMS Office no later than 3:00pm day of the game in order to be eligible for a default (loss on record and 3.5 sportsmanship rating). Deadline for scheduling conflict notification: Playoffs for Season Sports: Playoffs are a single elimination tournament Playoff games will typically NOT be during the same time as your regular season games. Team captains are responsible for verifying their playoff schedule at the conclusion of the regular season by checking the playoff bracket on IMLeagues. All teams are eligible for playoff competition unless they have: Failed to achieve the 4.0 sportsmanship rating average during the regular season Forfeited two games Show IMLeagues – adding players, setting time preferences, playoff bracket, free agents

Forfeits Game Time is Forfeit Time! Teams should arrive 15 minutes before scheduled game time. Forfeits occur under the following conditions: A team does not show up for scheduled game (2.5 sportsmanship rating). A team cannot field the required number of players by the designated game time (2.5 sportsmanship rating). A violation of any rule that may result in a forfeit as stated in ‘Intramural Sports Code of Conduct’ (sportsmanship rating dependent on nature of violation). Show how to pay on IMLeagues

Misapplication/Misinterpretation of Rule Protests Player Eligibility Misapplication/Misinterpretation of Rule Opponents must verbally make the intramural sports staff (official and supervisor) and suspected ineligible player aware of an eligibility protest before the player in question enters and participates in the contest. Opponents give up their right to protest any player after the suspected ineligible player participates against them. An official protest form must be filed with the IMS Supervisor Protest can be made before, during or after contest Captain must say “I protest” Supervisor and official will discuss the call and make the ruling An official protest form will be filed with IMS Supervisor and game will continue

Ejected Players Players may be ejected: Two unsportsmanlike penalties (e.g., 2 yellow cards/2 technical fouls) One severe unsportsmanlike penalty (e.g., red card/flagrant foul) By an IMS staff member for a gross violation (e.g., taunting from the sideline, attempting to injure another player). Ejected player must leave the playing area immediately Any ejected person not adhering to this rule will cause their team's game to be forfeited. The ejected participant will be suspended a minimum of one game and must meet with the Assistant Director before being allowed to participate in Intramural Sports again. It is the responsibility of the ejected player or team captain to contact the Director to set up an appointment within 48 hours of the ejection. If no contact is made within the first 48 hours after the ejection, the captain could also become suspended from all Intramural Sports participation until the matter is resolved by meeting with the Director.

Alcohol & Other Drug Policy In accordance with Northwest Alcohol Policy and to ensure the safety of all individuals, Campus Recreation prohibits patrons from attending or engaging in Northwest Campus Recreation related and/or sponsored activities while under the influence and/or in possession of drugs and/or alcohol as evidenced through the diminished capacity of motor skills, smell of alcohol, language confirming or suggesting alcohol consumption, demonstration of belligerence, or any other behavior that is deemed harmful or unsafe by Campus Recreation Staff. Individuals suspected to be in violation of the Northwest Alcohol and Other Drug Policy are subject to the following: The offending individual must immediately remove themselves from the facility. Failure to comply and cooperate with Northwest Campus Recreation Staff will result in Northwest Police Services being called. Pending review and investigation of the incident by Campus Recreation Staff, offending individuals may be subject to temporary or permanent loss of Campus Recreation privileges. All policy violations will be reported. Jeopardizing the safety of others will NOT be tolerated!

League Format Play begins: Monday, March 27th Three week regular season Spring Break March 17th Location: Bearcat Stadium Turf Field Schedule will be posted on IMLeagues by 5pm Friday, March 16th

The Game Two - 15 minute halves Running clock. Added time will be addressed by the official an the field Added time will come from injuries, delay of game and protest. Coin Toss Winner chooses to kick off or side to defend Mercy Rule The game will end at anytime if one team is up by 7 goals

The Game: Players Players Substitutions Teams consist of 6 players ( No goalkeeper) Must have a minimum of four (4) players to start Co-Rec teams consist of 6 players three males and three females must be on the field at all times May never have a difference of more than one (1) between the genders 3m:2f, 2m:3f, 2m:2f Substitutions Unlimited subs allowed Substitutions are on the fly No substitutions may be made for an ejected player.

Equipment Athletic close-toed shoes must be worn. Metal or screw-in cleats, bare feet, sandals, or boots NOT allowed Turf shoes and tennis shoes are allowed No jewelry, hats, including baseball caps & bandanas Soccer balls will be provided for the game. Shin guards not required but highly recommended IMS will provide jerseys if your team does have them Items in need of PRE-APPROVAL: Religious Jewelry/Headgear Guards, Braces, & Casts Must set up meeting with Director at least three (3) days before first game

Playoff Procedure Teams will be placed into playoff brackets after regular season has been concluded Single elimination tournament

The Playing Area 50yrds by 25yrds. The team bench area will be designated by cones on the sideline. This area is limited to players who are on your roster, checked in, and currently not in the game (this area is NOT for spectators). Team Bench PK Area Sub Area Team Bench 2yrd box

The Playing Area: Boundaries End Line If the ball goes out over the end line by the offense, it is a goal kick for the defense. If the ball goes out over the end line by the defense, it is a corner kick for the offense. Sidelines Side out = “kick-in” Ball must be stopped before putting it in play. NO Throw-Ins Opposing player has to be 10ft for the player kicking it in play Can not score from a kick in Touchlines are considered ‘in play’ A player may be out-of-bounds and still play an in-bounds ball

Basic Rules: Kickoffs A kickoff begins from the center of the field of play, on the referee's whistle. Kick must be kicked backed at the start. Every player shall be on their team's half of the field. Players opposing the ball must remain outside the center circle until the ball is kicked (10ft) Player taking the kick may not touch the ball two times in a row Can not attempt to score off the kick off until the ball is in front of the half line!

Basic Rules NO offside in intramural soccer Can not shoot on your goal side of the field. Ball must be crossed half. Indirect or Direct Free Kick All opposing players shall remain at least 10 feet away until the ball is kicked. Advantage: The referee will yell “play on” to acknowledge the foul. Playing/calling the advantage is strictly a judgment call by the referee and may not be protested.

Basic Rules Goal Kick Corner Kick Drop Ball will occur when: Must be taken from anywhere within the goal box. Players opposing the goalkeeper must remain outside of the goal box until the ball is kicked. Corner Kick Will be taken from the corner closet to where the ball was hit out of bounds by the defending team. Drop Ball will occur when: An injury has transpired and no one has clear control of the ball. Official is unsure of an out of bounds call. There is a double foul (one on each team).

Basic Rules Slide Tackling is PROHIBITED A red card will be given immediately! Direct free kick will be awarded to the opposing team Contact does have to be made in order for a penalty to be called. Sliding not into a person or in general is a yellow card

“Goalkeepers/Last Person Back” A player(s) my be in front of the 2 yard cones but are NOT permitted to touch the ball with the hands. The player my not be inside the 2 yard cone at any point This can be any player on the team. If the ball touches the hand then a PK will be reward. Goal Kicks: May be played by any player on the team.

Indirect Free Kicks All players must be 10 feet away* Ball must touch another player before goal can be scored Indirect free kick for the following: One player touching the ball twice in succession on the kick-off, corner kick, or goal kick. Yellow card Obstruction Dangerous play (e.g. bicycle kick, playing the ball while on the ground, high kicks, etc.). These calls are judgment calls and may not be protested. Potential Yellow Card.

Direct Free Kicks All players must be 10 feet away* Goal may be scored directly from kick Direct free kick for the following: Holding, pushing (flagrant), striking and/or tripping even when it is “accidental” in nature. Hand ball - if intentional an automatic yellow card (outside of goal box direct kick, inside the goal box penalty kick) Slide tackling. Red Card

Indirect and Direct Free Kicks With In 10ft of Goal If an official calls and Indirect or Direct free kick and the ball is less than 10ft from the goal, the ball will be moved to the PK area. No one will be allowed to try and stop the ball (Just the kicker and open goal) *This rule prevents automatic goals

Basic Rules: Misconduct Yellow Card Violation: 1st warning If a player receives a second yellow card, the individual will be given a red and ejected. Offenses include: Unsportsmanlike behavior Dissent demonstrated by word or action Sliding Delay of game Failing to respect the required distance when play is restarted (corner, kick-in, free kick, etc.) Enters the playing area from outside of the designated substitution area.

Basic Rules: Misconduct Red Card Violation: Player is ejected from the game and the team must play shorthanded for the remainder of the game. Player is subject to all IMS ejection policies & procedures Offenses Include: Foul play Slide tackling Violent conduct Spitting at an opponent Denying an opposing team a goal or an obvious goal scoring opportunity by: Deliberately handling the ball Committing an offense punishable by a free kick or penalty kick Use of insulting, offensive, or abusive language or gestures Receiving a second yellow card of the game

Penalty Kicks Penalty kicks are awarded for any infraction by the defending team within the penalty area that would normally be penalized by a direct free kick Taken from 2 yards in front of half field with an open net. All players except for the kicker have behind half field till contact is made. Once the ball is kicked, 2 players behind the half field line, may cross and attempt to stop the ball from going in. Sliding is permitted during penalty kicks. The team kicking the ball my not cross the line till it has either hit the goal post, goes out of bounds or is touched by an opposing player.

Overtime (playoffs only) Two, 5 minute sudden death overtimes (new coin toss). If still tied, penalty kick (shoot out): Only the players on the field at the end of the sudden death overtime may participate The home team will call coin toss, winner of coin toss elects to go first or second. Each team shall take an initial series of four (6) kicks alternating from the penalty mark. If the score remains tied after the initial four (6) kicks, they shall continue alternating in the same order. If a team is playing shorthanded because of an ejected player, then the team must have one (1) player kick twice (only if the team is playing with four (5) or less players). Co-Rec teams must alternate male-female. If there is not an equal number of males and females present, members of one sex will shoot again to maintain the alternating order.
