From Generous Girl to “Caged Animal.” Summary Ashley Smith died in a federal prison at the age of 19. Jailed for four months after throwing crab apples at a mailman. She accumulated many charges after minor assaults on guards and prankish stunts. Seven guards watched Ashley as they were ordered to not intervene She was a sweet child that would offer food to the homeless. She developed a mental disorder, oppositional defiant disorder.
