INTERNATIONAL CENTER FOR CAUCASUS TOURISM GEORGIA “When you travel, remember that a foreign country is not designed to make you comfortable. It is designed to make its own people comfortable.” Clifton Fadiman We agree with American Intellectual: Georgia with its grand tourist potential is designed to make its own people comfortable. ICCT, non-governmental, non-for-profit organization, was founded in April 2007 to help poor people in fighting against poverty through tourism. Among founders are the experts working in the tourism together with sociologists, biologists, philologists, representatives of culture, sports, arts and other spheres.   ICCT is the follower of UNWTO S-T-E-P Program from 2008. Sustainable Tourism Elimination Poverty www.facebook.com/Cycle-Tourism-for-Rural-Development-111482946193616/

Poverty alleviation has become an essential condition for peace, environmental conservation and sustainable development, besides being an ethical obligation in Georgia, where the divide between poor and rich remains still in force, although steps forward to improvement were noticed in recent years. We started from mountainous village Utsera, Upper Racha District, West Georgia What did we do first? Utsera locals were provided with training course: “ European Standards of Hospitality in Rural Areas” elaborated and approved by EU in 2005 ( well known Leonardo Project) Trainer: Ms. Marina Metreveli, is authorised to conduct course “Rural Hospitality International Standards” Member of RTI-TN, The Netherlands, since August, 2008 www.facebook.com/Cycle-Tourism-for-Rural-Development-111482946193616/

ICCT provides rural (especially, in mountain areas) population with training devoted to sustainable tourism opportunities to improve capacity with followed employment in the tourism industry. ICCT trains motivated people who’d like to become an entrepreneur and manage a private business in the community they belong to. ICCT is a GEF member and pays the considerable attention to ecotourism also. From 2013 ICCT creates and implements the projects funded by EU in the frameworks of BSB CBC and EaPTC. Successful stories about the achievements gained are disseminated at partners’ websites and FB pages. Recently ICCT in partnership with NGOC from Armenia opens the Cycle and Rural Tourism Camp Base near a picturesque mountain resort Borjomi, Samtskhe-Javakheti Region, Georgia. 10 cyclists – the participants of International Tour Armenia – Georgia were hosted by local communities resided around the Camp Base. ICCT is about to enhance the knowledge and experience accrued through the project which is in the drafting state to be submitted to BSB CBC ENPI, 1st Call 2014-2020.
