A general look at the process …. Identify or hear about a grant opportunity Discuss it with your administrator or dean Contact Resource Development Submit the Authorization to Apply for a Grant form Work with Resource Development to create a competitive proposal.

Some Examples… Grant Project Amount Services provided… Talent Search (US Dept. of Ed.) $381,792/yr Provide college preparation services to 776 SAUSD students who are low-income, first-generation, and academically at-risk. Student Support Services $301,110/yr Provide wrap-around support services for 175 low-income, first-generation, and academically at-risk SAC students to attain ambitious GPA, graduation and transfer rates. Veterans Upward Bound $263,938/yr Provide college and career preparation services for 625 veterans. Veterans Student Support Services $220,000/yr Provide wrap-around support services for 120 veterans who are SAC students to attain ambitious GPA, graduation and transfer rates.

Some More Examples… Multiple OER (Open Educational Resources) grant projects (private and state) $461,852 From one modest grant in 2012, SAC began its effort to build an inventory of OER courses with no- and low-cost textbook options for students. Incrementally through additional grant projects, SAC has expanded its inventory of OER courses to have the capacity to begin offering OER Degrees: i.e., providing all of the courses required for multiple degrees through OER courses. Bridge to Engineering (US Dept. of Labor) $784,450 from 2011-2015 Provide academic and peer support to pre-engineering students as they work their way to an engineering degree.  The program recruited students from local high school STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) programs, Santa Ana College, and long term unemployed individuals.  Advanced Technology Education (ATE) Grant – Biotechnology (National Science Foundation) $562,496 Goals of the project: 1) Increase enrollment in the community colleges’ biotechnology programs, especially among underrepresented populations; 2) Students who complete the colleges’ biotechnology programs will have the knowledge, skills and abilities required to enter and succeed in biotechnology occupations; 3) Produce a high number of biotechnicians to address the regional workforce need; and, 4) Improve program alignment with industry workforce needs and build robust programs through regional alignment and collaboration. Basic Skills – Student Outcomes Transformation (Chancellor’s Office) $1,500,000 Wide-scope project to improve basic skill development through use of multiple measures to improve placement; new methods to increase direct placement into college-level math and English; contextualized basic skills in CTE; proactive support services; and English Redesign of N60 and 061. Estimated that thousands of students will be positively affected through these changes.

Minority Science and Engineering Improvement Program - $2,597,607 for 11 awards GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness for Undergraduate Programs) - $49,000,000 (7 awards) Private Foundations - $25,000 - $5,000,000 Strong Workforce Program - $17 Million Regional Projects
